MIPS Lecture at SUFU Winter Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona

The Mediterranean Incontinence and Pelvic Floor Society (MIPS) is proud to announce the implementation of the recent affiliate agreement with the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU). Thanks to this agreement, a MIPS Speaker will have the opportunity to present a MIPS lecture during the SUFU meetings and a SUFU lecture will be given at the MIPS meetings, on alternate years. During the 2015 SUFU winter meeting that was held in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA from February 24th to February 28th, the first MIPS lecture was given by Prof. Enrico Finazzi Agrò (Rome, Italy). The lecture’s title was “Critical review of the role of urodynamics before female stress incontinence surgery: Economic implications in the Mediterranean countries”.

The lecture objectives were to explore the data on the value of the urodynamic investigations in women with stress urinary incontinence and their cost-effectiveness. The conclusions were that urodynamic tests have an important role in complicated cases of stress urinary incontinence and is a diagnostic option in uncomplicated cases. The costs should always be considered, even if based on US studies that were reviewed in a recent article in Neurourology and Urodynamics. The reported costs in the literature, however, may not represent the actual costs in Mediterranean countries. The lecture was well received by the attendees which was reflected by the several questions that were posted to the speaker. The SUFU executive announced the affiliate agreement with MIPS to all participants of the 2015 Winter meeting. This is another great achievement for MIPS in 2015!
